I am researching for a good mapping program to share my walks with you.
I am looking for a platform that will allow me to develop easy walks for you to download to your phone.  This platform must have these abilities: off line downloads so that you can use a walk without using up your data time.  It must have text capabilities, audio is nice but sometimes one prefers to look. And the app and walk use must be free or very low cost, even a tipping function would be fine.  Is there anything you would like to see in the app I choose?

Here is the sketch for the first walk. I am putting it here for the people I am talking with about becoming contributors to their walking web sites. But I would also love to hear from you as to what you would like to see highlighted on the walk

My first gentle walking tour is the Sonoma County West Regional Trail

Walk: 5 mile, improved trail. Can be split into 2 separate trips. Forestville to Graton 3.3 miles. Graton to Mill Station parking lot 2.8 miles. One way if done with bus connections. Improved trail, some roadside. Gentle downhill slope if started in Forestville.
Parking and connection: park Sebastopol or Forestville, or in Graton if you want to split the trip. Use Sonoma bus route 20 . I suggest parking at the end of your walk and using the bus to the trail head.

Features to be added: local restaurant recommendations, wineries with access to the trail, location of local fauna with photos. Possible pointers to berry farm and butterfly garden nearby.

Note: this trail should not be used during or in the days following heavy rain.

Piorama Bag Review

I am always seeking the perfect bag, so I was delighted to do a review on this duffel. I hate reviews that feature  "The Unboxing". I really don't care how it arrives, and I don't care how pretty the features are.  I want to know how will it preform in the field, especially under stressful conditions. Just FIY  I did not receive any free product from them, but they did give me a discount. The opinions here are my own, and the photos are mostly my own. Piorama has designed a duffel bag that collapses into itself. This allows the bag to be configured for under seat, overhead, or checked sizes.  As my trips often have more stuff in one direction than the other, I had high hopes for this bag. I ordered two different styles the A10 and the S3. I got the  A10  for myself.  It is their middle of the road bag. The next step up is the  B3 , which is more back pack than I am able to use at almost 70 years old. As far as I can see, there are two major...

Morris in the Borders

Imagine you are driving in far rural Midwales.  Narrow, hedge lined roads with barely enough room for two cars to pass in the wide spots. You come around a curve to the top of a hill. You reach a cross roads, you find a group of mad men, in tatters, brandishing sticks. Women with hankies  frolicking.  Ignoring the threat of rain. The Bettwys Triangle Art and Music   with  The Shropshire Bedlams and Martha Rhoden's Tuppenny Dish.  What can you do, but park and watch . An old church,  with beautiful carved headstones.  The rain held off until the last crack of the sticks then  it poured.

Pottery in Fes, February 2026

I haven’t done much posting lately. I know I have said this before, and I will likely say it again. Life has a habit of getting in the way of my plans. I am cleaning up my photo pile and I am so excited about all of the photos. I have decided to give you a small bit of my Moroccan expedition with Chava. Our G-Adventure tour took us to several co-op factories.  Doofus that I am I have failed to write down the name of this one. I am hoping one of my fellow tour-mates can refresh my memory so I can add it here. This post is mostly a photo dump, with a some small comments. A more extensive discussion will be in the next post. Most of the photos are raw, without editing. Lodema, this whole post is dedicated to you, and to all of my artisan friends. All photos are my own. Taken on a Samsung. I encourage you to enlarge the photos by clicking on them. It will give you a slide show, without the comments. All of this is done on a kick wheel This is the kiln. Pottery is stacked inside a ...
