Wheel chair fantastic Popular, can be crowded at low tide Dogs OK Bathrooms More Info at   MacKerricher State Park   The parking is just north of Ft Bragg.  The boardwalk trail is 100% wheelchair accessible giving access thru an area that would be destroyed by too much foot traffic.  There are stair cases that lead down to wonderful tide pools.  There is letterboxing to be done here. If you have binoculars, bring them.  There are whales and seals, and all sorts of ocean stuff to see. I was an idiot and only brought the phone camera.  I am regretting not bringing the fancy zoom camera. Make sure to bring a hat.  You may want to sit and watch.  Th

Hiking Poles

I always thought that hiking poles were the height of folly. But Kay handed me hers, and told me to walk with them. Knowing me, she gently badgered me until I relented and tried hers. Thank you Kay I was wrong. I love them. And I really think that they have made the difference between my being able to do these walks and just giving up. And I have been asking people I see walking with them and asking their opinions and stories. Nancy's Story: I discovered the “sticks” in 2004 when I bought a set for my mother-in-law for her 85 th  birthday.  She lived in Loleta and was still walking up and down the hill near her home on Copenhagen Road.  I had done research on the internet and found these sold by Leki made in the Czech Republic.  They were called Fittrek.  They are adjustable and very lightweight.  I bought a set for myself as well and I am still using the same pair I bought in 2004.  I don’t recall the exact price but I think they were fairly expensive. The sticks have grown

Riverfront Regional Park

Distance: 2.2 mile. Loop or Out’N’Back Elevation : Flat.  Wheel chair OK* till the top of the loop.  Popular but not crowded $7 per car, Dogs OK,  Bathrooms* Map available at   Riverfront Regional Park Today I did my second tour of the Riverfront Regional Park near Windsor Ca. The big joy for me was that I did more than 3.5 miles! Forty years ago considered buying a house on East Side Road, but decided against because of the gravel trucks that roared past the front door. And not long after, one of these trucks took the turn a bit too fast and rolled onto its side in the driveway.  This park was created from the gravel mine right down the road. In the winter the two ponds become part of the flood zone for the Russian River. Fortunately for us most of the time they are well behaved lakes. This park is an excellent one for people of differing ability to enjoy together.  In this post I will make suggestions for things for your companions with more energy and those with less.  The par

Cyber Whining or Would you please do me a favor?

(Note: you can fast forward to the bottom if you want to know where this is all going) What a wonderful world we live in. I can use technology to do something without having a clue at to what I am doing. Not only that, but as soon as I figure something out they go and change it. I have been doing this blog about my walking adventures. BadKneesTravel.blogspot.com and I have been having fun doing it. It has encouraged me to get out walking, and to think about how it fits into my life. I decided to do it in a blog for several reasons. One is that doing it on fBorg means that they control it, and they own the photos. And many of my friends really don’t like fBorg. Another reason is that it feels a bit like forcing your guests to see the slides you made of your vacation. Or not showing them not knowing that they really wanted to see them. Either way an opportunity lost. So I have been happily blogging away, when the evil overlords of Blogger decided that they didn’t want to deal
