(Note: you can fast forward to the bottom if you want to know where this is all going)
What a wonderful world we live in. I can use technology to do something without having a clue at to what I am doing. Not only that, but as soon as I figure something out they go and change it.
I have been doing this blog about my walking adventures. BadKneesTravel.blogspot.com and I have been having fun doing it. It has encouraged me to get out walking, and to think about how it fits into my life.
I decided to do it in a blog for several reasons. One is that doing it on fBorg means that they control it, and they own the photos. And many of my friends really don’t like fBorg.
Another reason is that it feels a bit like forcing your guests to see the slides you made of your vacation. Or not showing them not knowing that they really wanted to see them. Either way an opportunity lost.
So I have been happily blogging away, when the evil overlords of Blogger decided that they didn’t want to deal with the implications of maintaining the email lists. There are elements of international intrigue here because of EU laws. And there are bots that infest files that add any email to their lists, and so on.
I get it, that they don’t want to do all that. But AAARRRGGGHHH now I have to figure out what to do. And they removed the subscription, but now one can’t remove the old “Subscribe” box. And I lost those emails that I already had.
I have decided on MailChimp as they seem to be doing an adequate job of maintaining. There are some great tutorials. Best of all it is free.
Side note here: this all has taught me why some of the stuff that shows up dealing with subscriptions happens.
If you have gotten this far, dear reader, I will assume that you are someone that actually reads the blog. So I have a favor to ask.Would you please go to the new and improved email subscription and enroll? I have a small stack of Patches to give to the first folk that enroll. The first bulk email will give you instructions on where to send me your snail address.
Another side note: If you are in Europe, you may not be able to use this form. If so, send me an email and I will add you manually. And you will have to wait for your patch until I am able to return to the land of beer and cider.
